The Studio Entertainment segment of Walt Disney makes and acquires live-action and animated motion pictures, direct-to-video content, musical recordings and live stage plays. Disney's Studio Entertainment businesses generate their revenue from distribution of films in the theatrical, home entertainment and television and SVOD markets, stage play ticket sales, music distribution and licensing of Company intellectual property for use in live entertainment productions. The Walt Disney Company distributes films primarily under the Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Touchstone banners. The Company also distributes Dreamworks Studios (Dreamworks) made live-action films released theatrically from 2010 through 2016.
2017 v 2016
In 2017, the total revenue of Walt Disney from theatrical distribution of its content fell to 8.4 Billion dollars from 9.4 Billion dollars. Largest part of its revenue in 2017 came from TV/SVOD distribution and other segment totalling $3.7 Billion which was nearly the same as previous year. Revenue from home entertainment reduced to $1.8 Billion dollars from $2.1 Billion previous year. Theatrical distribution generated total revenue worth $2.9 Billion dollars as compared to 3.7 Billion dollars the previous year.
