McDonald's is a leading name in the fast food industry that  operates and franchises fast food restaurants in more than 120 countries around the world. The company operates a very large chain of fast food restaurants. A very large part of the fast food chain is run by the franchisees (close to 90%). The brand is trying to expand these numbers further by reducing the number of company operated restaurants and increasing the number of franchised outlets. The operating income of McDonald's jumped higher by 23% in 2017 as compared to 2016. Its 2016 operating income was 7,745 million dollars which rose to 9553 million dollars in 2017. The rise in operating income was due to the gain from the sale of the company's businesses in China and Hongkong.
