- The community supervision population is the estimated number of people living in the community while supervised on probation and parole.
- During 2016, from January 01 to December 31, the community supervision population fell from 4,586,900 to 4,537,100.
- This decline was mainly due to the decline in probation population which came down by 52,500 between January 01 and December 31, 2016.
- Moreover, the persons under community supervision constituted the larger part of the entire correctional population in U.S. at the year end, 2017. Around 7 out of the 10 persons in the correctional population were under the supervision of community.
- Persons on parole numbered 874,800 whereas those on probation were 36,73,100.
- From Jan 01 to Dec 31, the population under community supervision saw a decline of 1.1%. The number of persons under probation decreased by 619,800 from 2007 to 2016.
- Adult community supervision rate was 1,810 per 100,000 in 2016.
- Between 2007 and 2016, the number of persons under community supervision has experienced a decline at an average annual rate of 1.3%.
